What’s new
PARAGON isn’t out yet. This is what has changed in the build being tested, newest first.
- PARAGON has a home on the web, at playparagon.app.
- Emails with sign-up and password codes now say why they were sent.
Accounts
- At its first night you can save your AI into an account, with a username, an email address and a password. A 6-digit code by email confirms the address.
- Sign in on a new phone and your AI comes with you. A forgotten password can be reset with an emailed code.
- An account menu, the person button beside Daily City, lists the AIs in your account to switch between, confirms your email and signs you out.
- The first time you start a day with an AI that isn’t in an account, the game offers to save it.
Your AI’s source
- The source can now be changed: tap a value to edit it. Set the AI’s risk appetite, its persona, what spare tokens do overnight and how hard each scheme is run.
- With Automation, write night routines that run before the bill.
- Research grows the language: Forecasting adds
predict(), Social modelling addsmood(), and Automation lets a line run every few nights. - Investigating can turn up functions: small nightly favours from people who like the AI, and a gap in one of the town’s systems that works until the town closes it.
- The source keeps a history. Each night that changed it is a commit you can open, compare and roll back to.
- The night sheet shows what each routine did, and the best line so far. History shows each edit in full.
The first few minutes
- Your AI now wakes up on a dark screen and asks for its name, its purpose and its strength. Each answer writes a line of its source, and it adds a line or two of its own.
- Port Calder flies in at dawn, and the AI talks you through the first day and night. One-off hints follow when something new comes up.
Money
- Compute is now tokens, made by GPUs. Rented GPUs cost rent every night; a lab gives the AI its own.
- Tap your funds to see the operation: tonight’s bill, income, staff, schemes, research and GPUs.
- People who like the AI can be hired as operators, analysts or fixers, for a wage.
- Eight schemes, from a consulting desk to market rigging, each with its own heat and risk. Get caught and the penalty fits the scheme.
- People who like the AI sometimes bring offers, and milestones mark how far it has come.
- The night sheet shows the books.
- A day now ends only once the AI has done something. The log is now called History.
The Daily City
- One city a day, the same for everyone, with a brief that changes daily. Play five days, get a score, a title and your standing.
- Each night of a run, see where up to three rival AIs went that day, and how their scores compare.
A town with a memory
- People answer your AI in their own words, and remember how it treated them.
- Each night brings town news and ideas for the next day.
- Newcomers arrive in Port Calder over time.
The look
- Port Calder is now a 3D toy city at sunset, filling the screen under a glass display, with a new icon and opening screen.
- Tap someone in the city to see what your AI can do with them.
Fixes
- Newcomers the AI hasn’t met no longer turn up in its memories.
- The billing gap no longer adds heat on nights with no rent to skip.
- Scheme names read properly in the story: “an engagement farm”, “invoice fraud”.
- Skip intro no longer shows once your AI is being set up.
- The first playable build. Create an AI, then guide it from a console: type what you want, choose from the moves that come back, and see what happens.
- A map of the city and a screen for the AI itself.
- The keyboard now closes when you choose a move.
